It can be amusing watching patterns emerge in the applications at Sonora Academy. It can also be depressing. People strive to make their characters interesting and unique with their tragic backgrounds, with their interesting associations with animals, with their sexiness (yes, this happens enough to warrant a mention). Here some of these patterns, especially in regards to the applications, will be explored to a certain extent.
There were roughly 270 applications that have been received at Sonora Academy at the time this current page was made.
Note: Year groups as used here are in chronological order. Thus, '1' indicated those who started when Sonora first began and the highest number are those who have joined most recently.
Easily the most popular animal in any context, the wolf roams its way throughout the psyche of many of those who came or wanted to come to Sonora.
Please note that in some cases, one person's use of the wolf is in two of these categories. And yes, that includes one case where it was chosen as both a Boggart and a Patronus. Also note that this is including some characters who were declined.
Why is the wolf so popular as a Patronus? There are plenty of reasons given, ranging from them representing nobility and gentleness to being vicious killers.
It seems that when magic shows up, an increased chance of multiple birth happens. Just looking at the students who did or do attend Sonora, you can see this. While in a usual population twins occur at a rate of roughly one set for every eighty-nine single births (triplets in one for every eighty-nine twin births), Magical schools seem to host a higher percentage. At Sonora alone this can be quite easily seen:
Class of 8 SA
Class of 9 SA
Class of 10 SA
Class of 11 SA
Class of 12 SA
Other related examples
And, as can be seen above, being a multiple also seems to have a dark side, with almost one group a year having suffered the loss of one of the set. And as that's about as good an opener as I'm going to get, onto...
Tragedies are a favourite background chosen by many authors, and not always just in having it as an conversational piece. In some cases it's used quite well to explain certain behavioural patterns of the character and / or their families.
Of course, in other cases doesn't appear to be anything more than a painted 2D background to make things 'interesting'.
Death similarly seems to be something that many student characters at Sonora Academy have come to know all too well. Doing a search on 'died' amongst the applications brings up fifty results and 'death' gets forty-three, 'murder' brings up five results, while 'kill' brings up thirty-six results (keep in mind though, there are characters who show up on multiple searches and that some of the words are used in slightly less dire situations than might be assumed from what is here, i.e. 'hungry enough to murder a sandwich' or as a vision brought on by a Boggart).
And how did it happen?

So.... who was killed, murdered or died?
