Rabindra Family

Rabindra Family History

The Rabindras are originally from Winchester, England. They were wealthy courtesans of King Henry VIII. Albert Rabindra was the King’s librarian at Hampton Court and stayed on after his death until Mary had him beheaded for not being Catholic. Unlike most Pureblood families, the Rabindra are generally good people. While they believe Purebloods should have higher social status, they will behave very friendly towards everyone...that is, until that person or family tries to ruin the Rabindras good name, whether they are pureblood or not. They are not political and generally not prejudice against muggles and muggleborns. There was a cousin, Davis, who became a radical and joined a dark wizard's organisation before killed by another minion like himself after four months because of his reluctance to kill in the field. The Rabindras are known for being very smart and very low-key.

The Immediate Family:

The Rabindras are a matriarch family. The matriarch is Rosalind Tacy Sr., a loving woman who is also very harsh with keeping her grandchildren absolutely perfect. She married a well-to-do member of the Ministry, named Hubert Rabindra. He was crafty and loved muggle hunting. He died shortly after his last child was born due to a gun shot wound that he was too proud to receive medical attention for.

They had two sons, much to Rosalind Sr.’s chagrin. The eldest, Benjamin, is the CFO of Divine Rights Inc. - the largest maker of divination products (i.e. Crystal balls, tarot cards, tea accessories etc…) in Europe, and he makes a fortune off the company. He married Cassandra Briarly of New Haven and had four children: Christopher, who is attending his second year at Salem Institute, Bianca (10), Katharine (9), and Curtis (5). He moved there to be with his family, but travels to Europe all the time for business and is away a lot. Cassandra tries to make up for it by being overly doting on her children and buying them lots of gifts.

The younger son, William, is the owner of Rabindra Books, a large chain of Magical book stores in Great Britain that has been in the family since just after Albert Rabindra’s beheading. He married a brainy, but flakey girl named Celia Pierce that he met at school (Hogwarts: Ravenclaws). They had two daughters: Rosalind (12), who is in her second year at Salem Institute, and Audrey (9) who will be joining her there in two years. William works a lot and while Celia is a stay-at-home mother, she spends most of her time shopping and attending big parties, leaving her children in the care of boarding schools (Audrey at Arebranca School for Girls and Rosalind at Salem) and a middle-aged nanny named Phoebe.

Just a query... is it traditional for the matriarch of the family to be someone who married into it rather than one born into the family?

Matriarchal societies tend to be direct descent by the female line, similarly to how Patriarchal societies tend to be direct descent by the male line, only it's far easier to be sure you've got the right bloodline.
