Paul is currently a third year in Aladren, and on its Quidditch team as a Beater.

He comes from a fairly poor family, a sort of "fallen from grace" pureblood family thanks to a mistake in addictions by Thomas Tarwater's grandfather (Paul's great-grandfather). Despite this, they manage to live in a large (and fairly empty) house (looking fairly close to the house left) in the middle of nowhere in southern Oregon. It has beened owned by the Tarwater family for a very long time, and includes a rather anal ghost the family calls "Grandfather".

Paul's mother is a very happy-go-lucky woman despite everything, and also a woman unable to keep any secret she is told. Her name is Elizabeth Kjias-Tarwater. Paul's father, in contrast, is actually a permantantly depressed man who finds himself unable to get a job. Especially when the employers find out Mr. Tarwater is a werewolf.

Paul likes to say he is not like either of his parents, his abusive little sister, or Grandfather. He stopped caring a while ago about what others thought of him, and he can normally say things he means but doesn't really want to say. Especially when he gets angry.

So far though, he is able to hide his biggest, and pretty embarrassing for a 13 year old boy, secret. His sister, Sierra, is fairly sadistic and enjoys testing whatever hex or jinx or curse she learns on Paul and his cat, Lussni (multi-colored, blind in one eye, missing an ear, and etc.). Lately though, Cissy has been ignoring him setting most of her anger on her future fiance, his mother, and Elizabeth.

Paul can pick up on things fairly easily and can't stand to see something half-done. Which is why he does it fully, or not at all. He is a quiet boy with a curt way of speaking to people he doesn't know or like. He also finds it easier to be happy when things are quiet or he is alone, and Paul doesn't really care about not having many friends.

Paul does not want to go to college. Instead he wishes to work right out of Sonora.
