Lola Solens

Moi, je m'appelle Lolita. Lo ou bien Lola, du pareil au même.

Lola Solens is a Salem student in Terrigena. She has been captain of their Quidditch team since Midterm of her second year, when Cristine Rodderick abdicated, asking her to hold Chaser try outs for her. She was forced to organise try outs, as no one else did, and was officially made captain a few weeks later.

Appearance

Lola is average height, and has a curvy build. In an attempt to avoid unwanted male attention, she tends to do her best to disguise her figure in baggy clothes, and never wears make up. She has dark brown hair to her mid back, which always has at least one plait in it. Although fashion and style are far from being priorities, she likes clothes and accessories with red cherry motifs, because of the line 'Tastes just like cherry cola', in the song after which her parents named her.

Personality

As with any self respecting Terrigena, Lola is absolutely devoted to her studies. She is motivated by a genuine interest in acquiring knowledge, rather than because she feels it is expected of her. However, this doesn't mean she's above having fun. Although she has strict morals, if she thinks the means justify the end, or it is necessary, she doesn't mind bending the rules. She knows that anarchy would ensue if everyone followed this, especially as everyone sees their own views as where to draw the line, which is why most of her subterfuge would be done in a way so as to not attract attention.

She doesn't want to be seen as serious person, and when she started Salem, she introduced herself to people by asking them 'if [they] were a fruit, what fruit would [they] be?' to make a change from the humdrum questions. This earnt her the nickname 'fruit girl' from Kat O'Leary, which would later prove to be highly ironic. She also once got into a sing off at a school feast with Travis Larson. Travis showed up dressed as a Jedi, and sang 'Yoda' by Weird Al, a parody to the tune of 'Lola' by the Kinks. Unable to stand her song being treated in such a manner, Lola set him - and the rest of the hall - straight on the lyrics in the way available.

Sexuality

Lola is a lesbian, and has a gay crush on her best friend, Catriona McLeod.

Before she hit puberty, she was the sort of girl who though that kissing was slimy and gross, and frequently and vehemently vowed that she would never kiss a boy. Unfortunately for her, this didn't prove quite true, as one of her friends from home, Kez, got into (nasty skate) boys, and dragged Lola along on a double date with her crush and his friend, for moral support. Ricky, the oh-so-charming friend of Kez's date, felt her up and tried to kiss her, after she told him she wasn't interested, and told her 'not to dress like [a hooker] if she wasn't going to act like one' (Kez having selected the clothes, which Lola had felt highly uncomfortable in).

It was hard to tell where the thoughts of 'Why can't guys be nice and caring, like Catriona?' or 'Why don't people date people they're friends with rather than idiots?' merged into 'Why can't I date Catriona?', especially as Lola didn't recognise her own feelings for what they were at first. In true Terrigena style, she eventually decuded it from something she read in a book. Catriona had been teaching her to waltz, in preparation for Lola visiting the McLeods, and Lola blew up a window in a burst of accidental magic. Trying to make sense of why someone of her age had had an outburst, she went to a book on accidental magic, and learnt that explosions were common amongst teenagers, because they were linked to passionate feelings, such as anger or lust. She tried for a long time to deny how she felt for Catriona, but eventually resigned herself to the fact that she did have a crush on her. One which she intended to keep secret, as there was obviously no way it would be requited. A couple of times, she's felt like Catriona is hiding something from her, or feels the same way, but attributes it to wishful thinking.

She co-founded the group D.I.S.C.U.S.S. with Belinda Pierce, whom she has informed of her sexuality, but not of her crush on Catriona.

Home and Family

Lola is an only child, and lives in Los Angeles with her parents. They have a penchant for 1960s decor and music, reflected in the patterns and furnishings in their appartment, and the contents of their large juke box. Their appartment building is very close to Lola's friend Fee's, with whom she has been friends since she was a baby. There's something I want to watch on TV now, I'm going to finish this later.
