Nicolas Wolfe was born and raised in Munich, Germany. Until recently he worked at the Munich Magical Maladies Centre before circumstances led to his moving to the USA and taking up a position as a medic at Sonora Academy.

Manfred Bulla's paternal grandmother emmigrated from Germany, where she had been member of a reclusive, highly traditional and well-to-do family. She had been engaged to the heir of the head of a prominant Italian-American magical family.
