Briarly Family
Briarly Family History
Originally from New Haven, Connecticut, the Briarly’s family is pureblood through and through. Only a few exceptions have happened recently: Dedrick Briarly, age thirty-four at the time, one day decided to quit being a wizard and see how the muggles live and was immediately disowned. He now lives with his muggle wife (no children) in Scranton, PA. Another incident is Rebekah Briarly (age nineteen at the time) purposely spread rumors that her betrothed was gay so she wouldn’t have to marry him. Her story was broken through and she mysteriously disappeared after having been severely beaten from both her father and her betrothed’s father.
A small branch of the Briarly’s had a small coming out with the rest of the family. James and his wife, Cadence, had an argument over moving the family to Massachusetts instead of keeping them in New Haven to be closer to the school for which Cadence was very fond of. James and Cadence couldn’t convince anyone to join them in moving, but they settled in Baron Hollow and changed their name to Briar to avoid confusion. They used most of their wealth to make the Hollow respectable, having a park built and the streets updated. They had a daughter, Hannah, who married a well-loved, but poor half blood named Nathan Frost. They had no children and the large house the Briar’s had lived in became unkempt and deserted. The old couple still haunts it as well as a lovable crup that they had once owned.
The Immediate Family:
Head of the New Haven Briarlys are Donald and Patricia Briarly. They have always been respected in the wizarding world. Donald does international relations for the Cabinet which is a cover for his dealings in illegal transport of dangerous creatures in and out of countries. No one but the immediate family knows this and everyone keeps quiet because Donald (who was an Aether when he attended Salem) has a nasty temper and the ability to ship anyone he wants off to Morocco with a crate full of Chimaeras. Patricia (Aether) is a hard woman and while she doesn’t like what her husband oversees, they’re getting filthy rich off it and that’s what she cares about most. She’s not very smart, but as she rarely speaks, it doesn’t show.
They had a daughter and two sons. The eldest son, Leroy (Caelum), died on his twenty-second birthday after having too much firewhiskey with his friends and setting his robes aflame causing rumors to spread that he was mentally unhinged and not just drunk. He was betrothed to Lavinia Balder (Caelum), a pureblood, but not very rich girl whose family greatly supported the OFD. When Leroy died, she was given to their second son, Henry (Aether). They had five children: Perdita (Terrigena) died at seventeen when, for a graduation present, they let her travel to Europe and she got in the way of a rogue Auror attack. The second oldest, Tabitha, is in her second year at Salem Institute followed by Emilia (eleven) in her first year, Alexas (eight), and Paulina (seven). Tabitha was nine when Perdita died.
Perdita is not their full sister, but half. Lavinia was pregnant with her by Leroy before he died, but her marriage to Henry was so quick that no one noticed she was pregnant. The fear of being found out caused her to fear having children at all, so she put a contraceptive spell on herself for eight years before Donald threatened her and Perdita’s life if she didn’t have a son to be heir. They tried stopping after Alexas was born, but Lavinia forgot the spell one night and Paulina happened.
Henry is a lower level member of the Magical cabinet and gets all the family money from his parents. Lavinia doesn’t work.
The daughter, Cassandra (Caelum), being the youngest child, and a girl, was married off far later. She was almost thirty when she married Benjamin Rabindra (fourty-three; Slytherin), the CFO of Divine Rights Inc. - the largest maker of divination products (i.e. Crystal balls, tarot cards, tea accessories etc…) in Europe. They had four children: Christopher, who is attending his second year at Salem Institute, Bianca (ten), Katharine (nine), and Curtis (five).
The Briarlys are very into purebloods being the only proper witch or wizard and have a streak of meanness when it comes to muggleborns. Marrying off their children into proper families is the highlight of any Briarly parent’s life, which is why they are so very fond of the Rabindras. The Briarlys are not very rich or powerful, but they have strong alliances that give them an advantage.
They have a maid/nanny named Elenor and a house-elf name Alby.
